Our Training Philosophy
Our number one goal is maximize your physical quality of life after your active cancer treatments and primary rehabilitative treatments have ended.

In all honesty, your road to a fully-functional life starts after you have been successfully treated by your oncologist, radiologist, surgeon(s) and/or physical therpist(s). We do not treat the disease in any way, shape or form. Our mission is to retrain your body after you are physically able to safely resume normal life activities.

Your life as a cancer survivor may never be the same. Muscle damage may have occurred where incisions were made during a mastectomy or reconstruction operation. Nerve damage may have destroyed all sensation in places where those same surgeries needed to be performed. You may now experience limitation in various movement patterns. You may feel bone pain that is not attributed to muscle use. And you may be experiencing simple loss of energy due to the multiple courses of medication and treatment that you have had to endure.

All of these consequences of your treatment are very real and very serious.

How we reach that lofty goal of optimal quality of life is what separates us from most commercial gyms, other personal trainers and their obsession with fat-loss programs. We know what you've been through, and we have the science behind us to help you get back to being a fully-functional person.

Our programs start with a complete functional assessment. That includes a relevant and strictly confidential compilation of your personal medical history. We will then complete a baseline movement assessment and use it as a starting point for your personal development.

Our initial focus will be on creating stability in your core area, balance in your posture and flexibility in your major joints. Without these three key components, your ability to develop strength and endurance will be limited. Your core must be able to withstand all of the forces placed on your body to provide the structural support needed for strength development.

We take these three areas very seriously in cancer survivors as something as simple as a fall could result in debilitating injuries including fractures, muscle tears, and torn ligaments.

Once the foundation of stability, balance and flexibilty is realized, we then progress to basic strength training. If the client progresses through the strength phase of our programs, we will consider training the body for more life-like motions.

We fully understand the underlying variables of your situation. In most cases, our workouts will only last for 30-45 minutes. We will gauge your workout by your ability to complete them without compounding or compromising your physical state.

Life is about living. Your physical training is not only about training movement. It is about reaching goals that help you to live longer, happier and with confidence and a sense of wellbeing.
